Rae Whoo is a mixed-media artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Her soulful characters done in vivid portraiture style embody the spirit and pride of women throughout the African diaspora. Using pistachio shells and acrylic she playfully accentuates the unique physical beauty and liveliness of her subjects.
She grew up in Washington, D.C. but has lived in New York for the past ten years. Her creative force is fueled by frequent travels to such places as South Africa, Morocco, and the Caribbean. Her work is inspired by the intention of nurturing the identity and evolution of black women.
