Syma is an award winning, widely exhibited, New York-based artist who has been working with clay and mixed media for nearly five decades.
Inspired by ancient artifacts and mythologies, she creates interactive sculpture installations and clay vessels in response to personal life events, wishes, and dreams. Her large scale sculpted panels are permanently installed on walls of public and private buildings in the US and UK, and her ceramic jewelry has been featured at London, England's Lesley Craze Gallery.
Collectors of her studio works include: Agnes Vares, NY, NY; Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA; Sydney and Ann Levinson, London, UK; Barbara P. Meyer, Malibu, CA; Stephen and Susan Paine, Cambridge, MA.
A teaching artist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since 1999, Syma earned her B.S. in Psychology and Art from the University of Pittsburgh and has continued her training in New York, New England, and the UK. Private and semi-private Family Art Workshops are held periodically in her Brooklyn studio.
