Precious & Terrifying features art from an ongoing series of drawings inspired by the patterned, pebbled surfaces of shagreen and rayskin covered artifacts. This work explores notions of gesture and proximity that occur within such visually cellular fields. The dot scapes and pattern-work of Precious & Terrifying occupy a space that is, in equal measures, ornament and apophany. Though assiduous, inky drawings form the core of this effort, the show is broader in scope. Precious & Terrifying includes elements of similarly repetitious, iterative techniques such as CNC machining and letterpress printmaking.
